This full scale production of the classic Broadway musical
West Side Story is performed by the young people, ages 10 through 19
in our
Master Youth Musical Theatre Workshop.
West Side Story is a modern-day version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
It is a musical tale of street-wise kids, rumbles, teen-age love and
ethnic tensions. The story takes place on the streets of Manhattan in
the late 1950's. Bitter tensions between two gangs, the "Americanized"
Jets and Puerto Rican Sharks, boil over when Maria, the sister of Bernardo,
who is the leader of the Sharks, falls in love with Tony, who is the
co-founder of the Jets.
Many of the musical numbers written for this play have become favorites.
"Tonight", "Somewhere", "Maria", and "I Feel Pretty" are just a few of
the songs that audiences will recognize as our talented young performers
sing, dance and act in this American musical classic!

A Special "Thank You" To...
- Joel Ellinwood without whom we would not have had any set
for the show, or a wonderful Krupke! His late (midnight +) hours
after rehearsal, painting and artistic guidance were invaluable.
- Ken Adams who is a first time parent to the workshop,
showed up and said, "Just point me in a direction." and we did!
He painted, constructed and fixed whatever we needed.
- Dawne Atkins our resident Stage Manager.
- Don Thompson set painter and Stage Manager, who
volunteered once and we kept him!
- Dave McCullough our building expert.
- Dave Wooldridge our electrical fix it guy.
- David Holms, Jenny Woods, Aaron Rogers,
Cathy Rogers and Samantha Ellinwood, our
additional set painters.
- Judy Bouchard, Eileen Beaver, Margaret Eggert,
Pam Coles, Marjorie Taylor and Patty Brown
for all the work on costumes.
- Teri Heitman who kept everyone sane and fed.
- Karen Newton who kept us organized.
- Mary Jo Fischl our second spot light operator.
