Roseville's nonprofit Magic Circle
Theatre will host its second annual Season Kickoff Gala featuring
the Birdsall Awards on Aug. 20, 2005. The black-tie optional event
will celebrate music from the coming season, raise funds to repay
debt on the Roseville Theater renovation, and honor actors who
appeared in the previous season's 12 productions. This event is
sponsored by The Sacramento Bee.
The event will feature not only the awards, but an entire awards
program with production numbers from the new season, and other
performances by Cheryl Lockett (in her tribute to Billie Holiday),
Scene 5 (formerly The Circlettes), and Mike Branson (formerly of
The Drifters). In addition, the event will include a hosted
reception and silent auction, and Master of Ceremonies Pat
Hambright of FOX 40.
"Over the years, interest in the Birdsall Awards has grown
tremendously," said Magic Circle President Stu Schroeder. "Our
season subscribers select the recipients through secret ballot,
and they've always enjoyed the event."
"But we also have growing interest from others who see our shows and
support our programs," he added. "This is a celebration for the
entire community." Magic Circle is a nonprofit theatre company
that produces 12 shows each year in its two downtown Roseville
venues: the Roseville and Tower Theaters on Vernon Street. It also
offers a host of other programs, including youth
productions. Schroeder said Magic Circle is still in need of
contributions to help pay for some long-term debt that the
nonprofit assumed when it renovated the Roseville Theater. "So
this is a chance to celebrate and honor our actors and patrons,
while raising funds to help retire our capitol improvement debt,"
he said. "And contributions are tax-deductible."
Tickets to the Season Kickoff Gala featuring the Birdsall Awards
(black tie optional) are $50. They may be purchased by calling the
Magic Circle box office at 782-1777. The event begins at 6:00
p.m. at the Roseville Theater with a reception and silent
auction. Entertainment begins at 8:00 p.m.
Contributions for the silent auction are also being sought. Please
call Kathy Wilens (705-0603) or Paul March (220-3413) for more
