Greetings:
By this time I had hoped to be telling you of the marvelous season we have picked for our 15th season in Roseville. Several things have intervened to hold up that announcement. One of the big events is the renovation of our seats. Not only will they be gone for two months, but while they are gone, we have an opportunity to accomplish some other improvements in the auditorium that would be impossible while the seats are in place. These improvements include painting the floors, painting the ceiling, making improvements to the lighting, the sound, the heating and air conditioning and improving the accessibility. Needless to say, these things cost money and we are trying to line up financing. How much we can do and what we do will may affect may require making changes to our membership package and the way we handle ticket sales. It makes sense to announce any such changes along with the new season.
At the Magic Circle Rep. we try to pick a season based on what we think you, our public, will want to see, rather than what we want to do. This is a rather inexact science, but we spend a lot of time and effort on it. Complicating this task is the process of obtaining the rights to do certain shows, especially musicals. After weeks of pouring over catalogues and reading perusal scripts Ro and I develop a tentative season of shows. Then I write to the companies that control the rights to the shows we have selected to request contracts. A problem will occur if a professional theatre company is considering doing one of the same shows. The professional theatres receive priority and have the option to restrict any non-professional theatre from producing the show.
I am very happy to announce, that after much discussion, the one show we have for certain for next season is one of the most beloved musicals of all time Fiddler On The Roof. In the next month, we hope to complete our negotiations for the other shows of the season and announce them to you in our next newsletter. With "Fiddler..." capping our season I'm certain we will present you with a line up you won't want to miss.
