Excellence in Theatre for the 2002/2003 season was held on Saturday, August 20 at the
Season Kickoff Gala, Featuring the Birdsall Awards at the Roseville Theater.
Named for the late actor and director Bill Birdsall, a longtime friend of the theatre, the Birdsall awards are Roseville's version of the Tonys. Each year, Magic Circle season ticket holders vote on their favorite performances for leading actor and actress and supporting actor and actress, in the two categories "Musical" and "Non-Musical".
The evening was a huge success, combining our season kickoff and our annual fundraising gala with the Birdsall Award presentation. The evening began with a reception and silent auction. The tables closed at 8:00 and the show began. Audience members were entertained with some fantastic acts including Mike Branson of the Drifters, Cheryl Lockett whose tributes to Billie Holiday have been a great hit, and Stage 5 whose young members all grew up in our theatre in our youth workshops. There were also previews of music from our upcoming season, including the full cast of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Here are this year's Bill Birdsall Award nominees and winners.
